A council in East Anglia is looking for a second tenant to take over a cost-free space for eight weeks.

The high street premises in the town of Dovercourt will be made available to six businesses for eight weeks at a time over the course of the year.

The next lease period runs from October 4 to November 29, and any businesses or individuals are invited to apply.

The space is being rented by Tendring District Council to provide businesses with the chance to “try before they buy”, according to town centre co-ordinator Rachel Fryer. The council will cover costs except utilities, and provide advice and support to occupants after their tenancy has ended.

The first beneficiary of the scheme is currently using the shop to sell sea-fishing equipment. According to Fryer he is doing well, and is now looking for a permanent location in the town.
